Do price and volatility jump together?∗

چکیده
We consider a process Xt, which is observed on a finite time interval [0, T ], at discrete times 0, ∆n, 2∆n, · · · . This process is an Itô semimartingale with stochastic volatility σ t . Assuming that X has jumps on [0, T ], we derive tests to decide whether the volatility process has jumps occurring simultaneously with the jumps of Xt. There are two different families of tests, for the two possible null hypotheses (common jumps or disjoint jumps). They have a prescribed asymptotic level, as the mesh ∆n goes to 0. We show on some simulations that these tests perform reasonably well even in the finite sample case, and we also put them in use on S&P 500 index data.

Pricing of Futures Contracts by Considering Stochastic Exponential Jump Domain of Spot Price
Derivatives are alternative financial instruments which extend traders opportunities to achieve some financial goals. They are risk management instruments that are related to a data in the future, and also they react to uncertain prices. Study on pricing futures can provide useful tools to understand the stochastic behavior of prices to manage the risk of price volatility. Thus, this study eval...
متن کاملEconometric Analysis of Jump-Driven Stochastic Volatility Models
This paper introduces and studies the econometric properties of a general new class of models, which I refer to as jump-driven stochastic volatility models, in which the volatility is a moving average of past jumps. I focus attention on two particular semiparametric classes of jump-driven stochastic volatility models. In the first the price has a continuous component with time-varying volatilit...
متن کاملJump Variation Estimation with Noisy High Frequency Financial Data via Wavelets
This paper develops a method to improve the estimation of jump variation using high frequency data with the existence of market microstructure noises. Accurate estimation of jump variation is in high demand, as it is an important component of volatility in finance for portfolio allocation, derivative pricing and risk management. The method has a two-step procedure with detection and estimation....
متن کاملJump Intensities, Jump Sizes, and the Relative Stock Price Level
Large stock price movements are modeled as jumps in the stochastic processes of stock prices. In the current literature, the jump intensity is typically specified in models as a function of the current diffusive volatility and past jump intensities, while the jump size is assumed to be independent of the jump intensity. We use a nonparametric jump detection test to identify jumps in several sto...
متن کاملDo Stock Prices and Volatility Jump? Reconciling Evidence from Spot and Option Prices
This paper examines the empirical performance of jump diffusion models of stock price dynamics from joint options and stock markets data. The paper introduces a model with discontinuous correlated jumps in stock prices and stock price volatility, and with state dependent arrival intensity. We discuss how to perform likelihood-based inference based upon joint options/returns data and present est...
